What is your first name?
Does Your name have any significant or sentimental meaning?
My father named me. He gave me the name as a reminder of his father who was a great warrior. My grandfather was a great warrior who fought fearlessly when he was alive. He represented the people of Shona in several wars of which he triumphed. Those days, great men are known to be fearless warriors. This was why I was named Gamba meaning “The Warrior.”
What is your background/heritage and why is it important to you?
I’m from the Shona tribe of Zimbabwe. In Shona, we believe that our culture is our heritage and ought to be cherished. Asides from being great warriors, we are creative people, well recognized for the arts, crafts, and sculpture we make. I am highly skilled in the art of sculpture. Be it bronze, rock, or wood, I can create wonderful designs.
What is the most challenging experience you have faced or are currently facing in your life and how did you/are you facing that challenge?
My most challenging experience was while growing up, having to provide for my siblings and help my mother since my father passed away when I was a child. I had to mature quickly in order to provide for myself and them beginning at a very tender age. Even though it wasn’t really easy, however, it has made me into the man I am today.
What do you think will make the world a better place and what role can you play?
I think the world will be a better place if the all societies are able to accept each other regardless of political or religious differences. Our culture is who we are but we should. It fear that which we do not understand. War and tribalism in not just countries within Africa but around the world stem from such meaningless things. If we as humans can set aside our greed and pride, many conflicts in countries within Africa and the rest of the world would end or not even have begun.
What do you wish others would know about you that they cannot tell on the surface?
That I am fearless, and always prepared for any situation. I believe this is the hallmark of a great man. Also, that I try not to get discouraged by others. Always believe in yourself is my advice.
