What is your first name?

Does Your name have any significant or sentimental meaning?

My grandfather named me. I was told that when I was younger, I usually fell ill. My mom worried a lot when the illness came. However, I was still able to fight through the illness and persevere. This made my grandfather give me the name Alisha – meaning “Protected by God.”

What is your background/heritage and why is it important to you?

I’m Hindu. I believe that irrespective of who you are, we all need God’s protection every point in time. Accidents happen every day, people fall sick, some could be injured or killed by a stray bullet. Do you think you are more special than the other person? No. I simply believe it is due to the protection from God that we make it through each day.

What is the most challenging experience you have faced or are currently facing in your life and how did you/are you facing that challenge?

My most challenging experience so far was fighting through a chronic illness when I was young. All I could remember was that I wasn’t able to go out for close to three years. I struggled in a zone between life and death back then but am grateful to still be alive today.

What do you think will make the world a better place and what role can you play?

I think the world will be a better place if we love and care for ourselves as well as others more. No matter what, we should always be ready to help your fellow human. You can simply put yourself in another person’s position and empathize with their circumstances or situation. Remember, it is not by your might that you live. It is due to favor from God.

What do you wish others would know about you that they cannot tell on the surface?

That I am loving and caring. In fact, I care so much for others that people often take advantage of me. This doesn’t mean I should give up. Instead, I believe that it is right to be good to others and that there is always good in doing good.
