What is your first name?

Ayomi

Does Your name have any significant or sentimental meaning?

My mother named me. Children are a source of joy and happiness. After waiting a couple of years after marriage without a fruit of the womb, God finally answered her prayers. Ayomi means “My Joy”.

What is your background/heritage and why is it important to you?

I’m from the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria. Our culture is our heritage. We are always ready to showcase this wonderful culture of ours anywhere we find ourselves. This is what makes us distinct from every other tribe in the world.

What is the most challenging experience you have faced or are currently facing in your life and how did you/are you facing that challenge?

My most challenging experience was trying to find my true cause in life. Most young girls face this, especially when they are born into a family where they still believe females are meant to be in the kitchen. Education is not really cherished in this part of the world. Even when you decide to be different, men are trying to cheat and take advantage of you. It can be really hard. I have learnt a lot from my experience. I try to encourage other girls to always pursue their dreams, and not to get discouraged.

What do you think will make the world a better place and what role can you play?

I think the world will be a better place if we begin to value education for women. It is very wrong to have that belief that girls do not need education. They are they mothers of our child. If they are not educated, how do you want our children to be brought up? With this in mind, I was able to bring people of like minds together to form the “TRAIN A GIRL CHILD” movement. We sensitize the general African society on why it is important for girls to acquire education.

What do you wish others would know about you that they cannot tell on the surface?

That I am caring and supportive. I believe every lady has a role to play in the society, and not meant for the kitchen alone. I’m a woman of action, and I always tend to be different. I will like others to copy this quality of me.
