I realize that quite some time has past since my last post. For this I do apologize. I have been in a period of reflection. With the second anniversary of my father’s passing due to cancer and caring for my mother who’s health is topsy turvy, and having a third friend pass away in the past two years, all of whom were 37, it has been challenging. I turn 37 this month. I have grown to realize the fragility of life and to understand that everything truly happens for a reason. You simply cannot use other peoples’ lives as a barometer to measure where you are in your own life. If your friends or family are getting married and building their own families, or earning more money than you are, that in no way shape or form should mean that you are “lagging behind.” If you were laid off (like I just was) or feel as though things simply are not going your way, take a step back. Everything happens for a reason.
As of late, so many people have made sweeping statements that the end of the world is near, how can there be so much, hate, suffering, intolerance, bigotry. It is hard in this over-connected world to not see on a minute-by-minute basis all that is wrong with this world. Through the darkness, there is light. When leaders fail, it is the ordinary, everyday person who bands together with other people to help others. This is the hope for humanity. We are our brothers and sisters keeper. To look beyond ones religion, race, or orientation and understand the soul and character of a person is what we need more of. It is for this very reason why I started to this blog. When we take the time to read the personal stories of others with whom we share this world, perhaps we may better understand the fact that we may have more in common with a person of another background than we first thought. It is the power of the story which shapes our lives.
In the coming months, I pledge to post more entries and interact with you more regularly. Let us grow Our Lives Told into a movement for inspiration, healing, understanding, and motivation. Together.
Take a look down that long road called life. Start your engine and get ready for the ride.
